French Press is an easy, quick approach to brew that still guarantees a satisfying morning cup of coffee.

We recommend you use medium-dark or dark roasts. Yet it can be fun to elevate your French press game by manually mixing two different blends - for example, No. 4 La Viet Bold and No. 5 Republic Blend 50/50 - with a 1:1 ratio.

Step 1

Boil water to 200°F - 205°F (95-98°C).

Step 2

Rinse the press with hot water before brewing and discard the rinse water.

Step 3

For the French press, a good rule of thumb is applying a 1:15 ratio of coffee to water. That means for every gram of coffee, use 15 grams of water, which is equivalent to 3 tablespoons of coffee for every 1 cup of water.

If you ordered our Sampler box, each pouch contains 25 grams of coffee (~0.88 ounces) and you will need about 375 grams of water (~13.2oz).

Should you prefer a stronger taste, start with a 1:12 coffee-to-water ratio instead.

Step 4

Place coffee into the chamber. Gently shake it to level the grounds.

Step 5

Pour one-third of the hot water into the chamber from the outer rim and steadily spiral to the center. Make sure all the coffee grounds are saturated with water.

Step 6

Give it a good stir with a wooden spoon if there are still dry spots. Leave the coffee for 30 seconds to bloom.

Step 7

Add the remaining water. Cover the lid on top of the French press but don’t push it down yet. Let the coffee grounds steep for 4 minutes.

Step 8

Firmly press the plunger (filter) all the way down.

Step 9

Pour your coffee into a serving glass immediately to avoid over-extraction. Otherwise, it will lose other flavors and be left with only bitterness.

Enjoy your coffee either hot, black, or with cream and sugar!
